Ok well since I started this thread I will go first. Here in my department we operate on a 24 hour on 48 hour off shift rotation between 3 platoons. On each shift we 2 engine companies 1 truck company 1 PPV company and 1 rescue company with the following compliment of man power

Engine has 3 men 1 capt, 1 engineer, and 1 firefighter

Truck has 4 men 1 Lt, 1 engineer, and 2 firefighters

PPV has 2 firefighters

Rescue has 2 firefighters

Our engines have 2000 gpm pumps and carrier 1000 gal of water with 30 gal of class a foam. They also carry 1000 ft of 5 inch supply line

Ok I'll try to answer some of those points

PL=Pump ladder (1X Watch manager, 1X Driver, 1X Crew Manager 2-3 firefighters)

P=Pump (1XWatch Manager, 1X driver, 2X firefighters)

FRU=Fire Rescue Unit (1XCrew Manager, 1XDriver, 3Xfirefighters)

We have a shift that runs over 8 days. 2 Days on (9am-6pm) 2 Nights on (6pm-9am) and then Four days off we come off duty on the first of these four days.

Our watch sizes and amount of vehicles we have depends on where abouts we are in London. We have 1 pumps stations to places which have 6-7 different vehicles.

As for the amount of hose and water, you'll have to ask someone on her that rides a ladder, I've been riding and training FRU's for too long  :oops:

Looks like over there you have far more better staffing, here in the states we have to fight to keep the staffing we have and the local politics are always trying to save money so the first thing to go are firefighters. When I first started in the fire service some 15 years ago we had 5 men to an engine, 6 to a truck and 4 on a rescue. Thank god for modern technology to help make our jobs easier for the most part.

You said your with a FRU do you do all rescue or just vehicle accidents. The reason I ask is some 5 years ago I was appointed as the counties technical rescue team chief and I often wondered if you guys do tech rescue the same as us over here
