The FBU is aware of a recent example where a crew standing-by with their appliance at a neighbouring station were ordered to remain at that station beyond the end of their normal shift for the purpose of ‘fire cover’.
Brigade managers have confirmed that this practice is not an authorised one.
When standing-by with an appliance at another station, members are perfectly entitled to return (on-the-run) to their base station at the end of shift, other than where they are in attendance at an operational incident.
