A fleet of 11 fire engines worth £1.3m and belonging to the national Fire Service College in Gloucestershire has been destroyed in a blaze.

The engines, costing £116,000 each, were stored in a workshop at the college in Moreton-in-Marsh, along with diesel and hydraulic oil.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service sent 58 firefighters to the fire. Crews from two other counties assisted.

I've been told that Asset Co. has already placed a 'tender' in for all the new engines, nothing like striking when the fire (iron)  is still hot

This shows my age, but STC did have a serious fire many years ago, where the firehouse now stands, there use to be garages, they burnt down one night on a blue watch duty. Early 80's I think. The joke was one of lads from Southwark had a walk around because he could smell burning; he ran back to tell the governor who did not believe him and took some convincing that there really was a fire in the garage.
