Apparently over twenty five years operationally and ten yeras in charge, is not competant to undertake T/Promotion to SM, applicatants must be also copetant in specialist rolls, i.e able to carry out a CFs inspection/train personnel and arrange st/by`s...havent done any of that at a station! (NOT) .

Hi Good Morning,
Like you I have a similar length of service and find it amazing that to get temporary to Station Manager you need to have a specialist skill. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but within the “New” framework there is no requirement for Station Officers (ops Watch Managers) to have a specialist skill, this has been added by those that know very little within our own Brigade.
An interesting point is how will those people that they recruit from outside the job get their specialist skills to be able to become Station Managers? I am not talking about those on the accelerated promotion scheme (Don’t get me started on that one!) but those that join from other jobs but have managerial qualifications that match those NVQ’s that supposedly gives them the same managerial status, of course it works the other way as well, as Watch Managers we can become a Manager of a department at Sainsbury’s. Is it me or has the world gone completely mad??

Wait till the new dual entrance comes in, they are interviewing now and it takes them less than a year to get to SM  :o

Just when you thought the senior officers couldn't get any worse!
Not to say they all are, I've know loads that are very good, but how do they manage to let so many numptys through?
Surely you'd keep the idiots at lower levels to minimise damage!
There I go again, thinking rationally, when will I learn?

Or promote them high enough so they out of the way, Would you rather have a numpty as Watch manager sending you into a BA job or as Area Manager sending you on CFS events on a weekend?

its what we used to call 'promotion on posting' in the Army. If they're really shit post them somewhere else the only problem was they usually got a promotion when that happened.

There again at a larger job these Area Managers would be in charge and no one would dare tell them they are complete tossers. Look at all the incidents were firefighters have been killed was not a watch manager in charge? mark my words this rapid promotion and also non uniformed people to access the station manager programme will spell disaster for this job.
I just hope I am wrong
