The Damage Control, BA and Hazmat pods are being taken off the run when the new OSUs come on the run. This will leave the three bulk foam units and four hose layers as stand alone appliances. The replacements for these are in the late stages of being designed although no orders have been placed yet.

Thanks for the info. Be interesting to see what the new hose layers and foam appliances look like.
I knew that the Breathing Apparatus pod would become obsolete because the current OSUs carry BA anyway.
Do you have info about the Damage Control pod, such as the equipment it carries, and its purpose (apart from the obvious 'damage control'!!!)
Cheers

Mainly salvage sheets and other stuff for preventing smoke or water damage. From what I've heard it sounds like the new bulk foam units may be flatbed trucks carrying foam containers, with either a FLT or crane to take them off. There are also two foam powder units due some time this year.

Only when, and if, A(r)sset.Co source enough new DCT gear to equip all six OSU's, along with suitable stowage. The project manager told me on Thursday that the DCT will be on the run for a couple of months yet, probably operating witht the Foam Pod HDC unit.
There's a new OSU at Finchley for 'training', but appart from being brand new, it's still the same truck as the current one, minus a manual gearbox and 3' roof height.
The new Foam units (late 2008) will be going to Silvertown, Sutton, and Feltham. Flat beds with fork lifts is the preffered choice, but in traditional LFB style, that's sure to change . . . .

Yes I do wonder what the point of the new OSUs is, they just seem to be near-identical box lorries to me. Do you know when the new ones will come on the run? I'd also heard those 3 locations mentioned, I take it G39 and F46 are for the airports? I thought A39 were meant to getting one as well to cover North London though.

So just to clarify, the Damage Control units are still on the run? However the BA pod has been withdrawn...?

Lets just say the wrong people are in charge of this project, forms are being typed as we speak to rectify a potentialy serious lack of foam cover for The west London oil terminal, Kodak in Harrow, the River Thames and it's Boats, and Central London which is a flightpath into the City and Heathrow runways.
