The only problem Kent had with the helmets was as the torch as mounted lower right of helmet it sometimes set the ADSU off.

Thats great :( it still doesn't address the lack of specialist kit needed for the no firefighting jobs.
We don't have proper gloves or helmets for RTA's, our fire gear is useless for anything but structural fire firefighting. Our radios still don't work and we have no comms to use underground 20 years after kings cross.
But its alright cos we can put up smoke alarms after resting on our chairs for four hours night.
We as a brigade really need to take a long look at ourselves, we are a joke compared to other brigades.
I understand what you are saying however just look around, FIT turn up in different gear, so does the CBRN team, FRU / USART boys and girls seem to be wearing all sorts of stuff, think its already starting to differentiate, just not perhaps as much as you would like.

I think maybe for RTA's and such like, we should have gloves that are robust enough but that also give us the dexterity to actually use our hands, like say mechanics gloves. I've got a pair of SPARCO mechanics glove and they protect but also allow me to do what I need to do without fumbling everything. Maybe we should just have longsleeved T-shirts for RTA's and when it's cold put your tunic on or wear a jumper?! Personally though I think the helmets are too bad, they're not exactly heavy and they're not uncomfortable are they?
But hey that's just my 2p's worth.

its not a dig or anything, its just that I stand their and watch these different crews turn up all wearing different levels of PPE and workwear and think to myself what the f"*k

What gloves would you want for an RTA incident? Are our current gloves not sufficient for the job?
Radios have always been a problem although the one we have seem to be better than previous ones. As for comms underground, it’s sort of been addressed. Most of our calls to underground incidents are LUL stations which have fixed equipment, internal communications or indeed the radios the staff use. Often it’s us the crews that can not be bothered to use it because it’s only a smell of smoke blah blah and we have already been here today.
Smoke alarm fitting and chairs well that’s a different issue and all those Station Managers with 5 minutes in the job telling us we have to meet our “Targets” for smoke alarm fitting, and will be happy to come around during the night to make sure that we are not sleeping but working instead.
But that’s another issue!

I'd say something like mechanics gloves, robust and protective.
