Volvo Pumps.

I don't know if this is just a coincidence, but has anyone else noticed that in the last couple of weeks quite a few stations are running Volvo's??

Is there a reason for this? or isit just a coincidence that their mercedes are off the run?

There are still around 12 Volvos left over in the reserve fleet so can still be seen about quite a bit.

The reason is the Mercedes are cheap and unreliable, no commercial haulage firm uses Mercedes tractor units they have a bad name in the transport industry,  so lets give them to the fire brigade. Just look at the new dimension prime movers, outside agency sorted them and they did not choose mercs !!

Well North Wales brigade recently took a delivery of about 10 Atego 1328s, only four have gone on the run and very quickly came off again, they're now planning to sell them and replace them with new MAN lorries!

In the case of the LFB the Volvos are sticking around because the last seven pumps have not arrived (and will not be coming for quite some time) and also because of the need for a larger reserve fleet due to the modification programme on the older Mercs and the fitment of new digital radios.

Even a MAN truck with a lose nut behind the steering wheel is going to hit problems
