SENIOR FBU officials met with brigade managers on 23 August, in the latest in the series of meetings over the brigade’s proposals to introduce 12-hour shifts. Discussions centred around the 35-page document drawn-up by the FBU, which outlined comprehensively the union’s opposition to 12-hour shifts and the effect that such an arrangement would have on our members’ domestic lives. Brigade managers asked a number of detailed questions in respect of the document, to which the union’s officials were happy to respond.
The union reiterated that there were absolutely no circumstances in which it would agree to 12-hour shifts. Speaking after the meeting, the FBU’s acting executive council member for London, Ian Leahair, said, “The ball is firmly in the brigade’s court. We’ve told them 12-hour shifts are a nonstarter. If they continue to insist on them, we will hold a strike ballot, and we will win that ballot. It really is as simple as that. We’ve carried out a considerable number of branch meetings on the issue, and the response is always the same: an emphatic ‘no’ to 12-hour shifts. If the brigade wants change, we will always listen. But that change will not come without the consent of our members. We will do what our members tell us to do. And they have told us in no uncertain terms their views on 12-hour shifts.” A further meeting is scheduled. Meanwhile, the FBU remains very confident in its ability to fight off the threat of 12-hour shifts.

I think that the idea of 12 hour shifts is slowly slipping away for now. The new chief wants to try and establish some order into the service, especially those at station that are having to face some of the biggest changes to the way we use to work. I am not saying it’s never going to happen, but for now it’s on hold. It’s all about trying to work with the firefighters without the union claiming a big victory blah blah. I am told ( for what its worth ) That Nick Collins is the only senior officer pushing for the shift change, other senior officers including Dobson have become more pragmatic about it all.
We will see

Heard a rumour today from a certain DO in H&S up the big house, that a offer of an 8am start on days was being made as the only change, with the usual finish of 6pm.
Now we all hear a million rumours, but I can't see the likes of Colemanballs and Shawcrossballs backing down without some form of dispute?
Overpaid wanabee MP's need something to keep them amused.
