Riding positions

I heard a rumour the other night that as we all know the brigade likes to save money and that one of its ideas is to lower the riding position at hose laying stations.  E.g. if they had a PL and hose layer their current watch strength is 10 but we heard that their idea is to lower that to 9 with all the savings that go with it.  I am not sure if their going to go after other POD stations (I know there are not many left now).

I do remind you it was a rumour so not sure if their is anything in it but sounds like them to me. Has anyone else heard anything like this??

they have 5 people riding the hose layer? I thought pod lorrys only had two seats lol. Or am i on about something totally differnt here?

yes they have 2 seat and the PL has 6 giving, 8 seats total.  the Pods are ment to ride 2 but they never do they just take ff to do out duties.  then 2 spare to cover leave.

less bums on seats = more out duties= more appliances of the run

I was'nt aware a PL and a special rode with a watch strength of 10?

Where did that establishment figure come from?

dont know, thats whats its always been i think it was 11 when they had PL and 2 x pods then when 1 pod went it they lost one to take it to 10.  it just give them a nice out duty pool each day.

The amount of personnel on a watch is arrived at by multiplying the number of riding positions by the "ridership factor".

The "ridership factor" takes inconsideration leave, training and sickness. it is this factor which goverment lower to arrive at lower watch strengths. It varies from brigade  to brigade. not sure what the current value in London is but think its around 1.3 it was 1.46 some time ago.

Hence if you drop the sickness levels your factor drops as well
