i want out of training school, but i am being told that i can't go untill i am replaced. there will be an advert going out soon trying to recruit FRU trainers only. the idea is that you would have to do a number of test to see if you are suitable. these would include being lowered of a tower to test your head for heights, to be a line assessor. and a swim test to see if you could become a swift water rescue instructor. although i can't see the doors being knocked down by applicants, as no are no real benefits to being in training. unless you want promotion or are near to retirement and you want to bump the pension up.

now the second part of my query. i am considering reverting back to a crew manager to see if this would aid my escape, but was told today that they would probably let me do, but i would have to go back down to firefighter. have any of you known anyone who has reverted, and if so were they able to go just one rank?

and remember keep you eyes open for the selection process and come and have a go and let me return to the delights of station life!

Have heard this problem before about reverting and know of someone who was given the same sort of verbal information when they asked ,but nothing in writting. If you are on a developement book surley you can sack the book. Mind you if you go back to a FF you'll be better of : overtime,PAO, outduties, driver allowance and no responabilty

Wonder if you part-revert ie down to a CM rather than a FF?

I did this a few years back. Got told i would be breaking my contract, and could be making myself redundant,
could be posted to the four corners of the brigade,
could be burning my bridges for future promotion blah blah blah.
Do i care? Not at all.
The best bit about reverting is that i discovered my enthusiasm for the job again. Doing the job i originally joined to do.

tell me gilbert, what did you revert from and to, and did they stitch you hope like they suggested?

I went from CM to FF. they didn't stitch me up but made things a little awkward by saying my leave wouldn't be honoured as someone else was off. Because i made the move "voluntarily" the brigade didnt have to fit my leave in around all the others on the new watch. This happened three times in all and three times i was " Happy" to change the dates. The other two ocassions i was told i could go on other stations and the same watch, but it always came back someone else was off and could i change my dates . In the end being nice and polite and not rising to any bait probably helped to get what i wanted. After i got to my new station it turned out that on only one ocassion was someone else on leave.

Don't care to much about leave, haven't got any in for next year. I don't care about watch either so all in all I'll take what I can.
