A FIRE engine collided with two cars and smashed into an estate agent’s premises while racing to a road crash.
Two firefighters were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the crash in Rushey Green, Catford.
The fire rescue unit collided with traffic and took out bollards and a postbox before crashing into Robinson-Jackson estate agents near the junction with Honley Road on Sunday night.
Robinson-Jackson owner Chris Perkins said: “I’m gutted – it looks like a war zone with piles of rubble everywhere.
“The structure of the building is damaged, everything inside is ruined, the computers, everything. It’s unworkable.
“As if the market wasn’t tough enough already – I need this like a hole in the head.
“I got a call at about 11.30pm on Sunday night and when I got down there I saw skid marks over the road and a fire engine in my shop.
“It looks like it went over the wrong side of the road taking out a couple of cars on its way and mounted the pavement, hit a few bollards and a postbox before hitting the shop.”
Flats above the estate agents had to be evacuated as a safety precaution.
The fire crew from Lewisham were on their way to a road traffic collision in Beckenham when they crashed just before 11.30pm.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called shortly after 11.30pm on Sunday to reports of a fire engine in collision with cars before colliding with a shop front in Rushey Green.
“Two London Fire Brigade officers were taken to a local hospital – one with shock, the other with cuts and bruises.”
There were no injuries to the occupants of the other vehicles involved and the fire service said they were investigating the cause of the crash.
Robinson-Jackson had been operating out of the shop since 2000 and had a complete refurbishment last year.
All their staff have had to be moved to another branch.
