i can't see that happening, but i can see them making FRU crew only ride the unit and take away their ability to cross over onto P &PLs. This is due to the amount of training an average FRU crew have to do to maintain there skills, especially at USAR stations.

Its just not a solution, are you suggesting that when we have too many FRU firefighters to ride the FRU that they could not jump over to the PL and ride that?
Training is a problem only because management seem to think its not an important issue, but the fitting of smoke alarms is. Let us train our staff to a decent level and get someone else to do the smoke alarm fitting.

You can have training and lots of it, give the FRU team a call and they'll try to whisk one or two of their most specialist trainers down to you for a day or two.
I thought the agreement was for the FRU crew NOT to fit smoke alarms or do home fire safety visits

Rest assured once we get into the New Year you will be getting a phone call about FRU training and what you can do for us. Your right about the FRU not doing smoke alarms and home visits, however that does not stop the SM trying to make the FRU go out and do them, and the general thrust from management “of you have not done enough HFSRA's this month so cut back on training (all) so you can go out and fit more smoke alarms”

Blazing give you SM a point in the right direction with the words "Risk critical " and the good old favourite H & S. If you drop a ladder it breaks if you drop someone off a line they die! Point out your DRA says they need the training to maintain skill levels . Lets get our priorities right.

Trust me he has had that given to him in no uncertain terms! so then he asked if the ALP could go out and do them, so I pointed out all the reasons why a crew of 2 in a 26 tonne appliance could not go fitting smoke alarms down some of the roads we have problems getting the PL down, guess what? he asked if there was any chance the IRU could do them?? is he stupied Yes are we doing them No
