FM CyclistsWhat's this advert thats knocking about for 'Fire Cyclists'? 
Apparantly you would spend the two days arsing about on bikes, then back in for nights?
How many more pumps do they want to take off the run.
With Strategic Resource, and now bikes, whos actually left to man the machines?

I believe this scheme has been on trial in Merton borough for some time, certainly I've seen these bikes around the Mitcham area. Apparantley two firefighters are taken to go and do CFS visits and inspections, though whether this is at the cost of their appliance been taken off the run or whether their absence is covered by others I'm not sure. Suprised it seems to be being advertised more widely though, from what I'd heard it has not been that sucessful.

I know it was done in bromley last year. And the people from my station that did it were detached on days for the whole summer. Another reason for them not to grant any over the top ph. So yes the bikes do come before the appliances.

i believe its been running out of Feltham for a couple of summers now. Firefighters ride around during the day, looking for any potential hazards, such as dump cars, cylinders or rubbish piles that could be torched, and working with the local authority get these things cleared before the local yobs can torch them. i also belive that they are seconded to days for the summer.

So basically doing what the local council should be doing, as in keeping their area clear of dumped cars and other rubbish?

.What I do not understand is, management are treating us like cr*p, removal of TV's etc, difficult to get leave blah blah, yet people still volunteering to do these sort of schemes and stewarding at Wimbledon, just imagine if no one volunteered for Wimbledon this year because TV's had been removed from stations
