CPD

Right, now I have started to post on this site there is no stopping me!
CPD payment is an insult to all those firefighters that have been receiving 15 year money.
It was gained after 15 years service (surprise surprise) no need to apply or prove that you were worthy or that you had done something special to deserve it. 15 years of working shifts missing loved ones birthdays etc was enough I thought.
The payment is currently less than the old 15 year money and as recent court cases have proved its ok to pay people more money for doing the same job longer than those with less time. (I always thought such payments were called incentives)
I know its all part of the new agreement etc etc but the procedure for implementing this was left to every brigade to sort out for it self, surely those already in receipt of 15 year money should not have any need to apply for CPD at all, Only those wanting it before 15 years would need to show they have done something special to deserve it.
I am sure it will prove to be a contentious issue but bring it on.
Oh by the way I know this year we are getting it without applying as a good will measure but that we will have to apply for it from next year onwards providing we have been good boys and girls and not had to much sickness, but I do not intent to apply for it as a matter of principle.
Just my thoughts feel free to comment

I agree with Ian, with practically every other job you get a 'long service payment', I had it in my job before this one, you got paid a little bit every couple of years (as an incentive) so that after 15 or 20 years you were on a much better wage than the new boy (or girl) just starting. What's the incentive now if after a couple of years the new kids are on the same wages as someone who's done 20 year?
As for applying for it after next year?
This Brigade just never fails to surprise me with it's endless scams to claw back a few pennies here and there from FFs but spend thouands on complete and utter nonsense elsewhere.
If there's a sure fire way of getting the backs up of all the members of the Fire Brigade, then that's to take some more money away from them!
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm looking forward to leaving in 2 years!
(before they decide i'm not entitled to my pension!).
