Archive for This forum is for serving or retired firefighters from the LFB. This is the place to have a moan, have a laugh and maybe even get some proper answers to some time honoured and new questions
What is going on here? You'd have thought that what with all the "modernising" that's going on, they'd give us better comms with control?!!! The button boxes hardly ever work and you can hardly hear jack s**t over the radio most of the time!
Why don't we get the same system as the police and LAS? They are basically running with a computer. And I belive they get their shouts on screen.

As part of the new RCC (Regional Control Centres) scheme new digital radios will be introduced accross the country. I heard that they will very soon be starting on fitting new digital radios to 10 Mercedes DPLs a week, which will be based on the Airwave digital radio system (as used by Met) which would involve getting shouts up on the screen and ensuring the nearest appliance is always sent to incidents.
New national callsigns are also being introduced which some brigades are using already, I'm not sure of exactly how they work, but Mitchams PL Hotel 361 would become somthing like Foxtrot Lima Hotel 3 6 Papa 1. Brigades using these callsigns are having to say them on the radio, although in Londons case they will not be used until the new digital systems are introduced when voice traffic will be reduced to a bare minimum and so they will not actually be spoken.
Hope that helps, I know I'm just some random teenager but firefighters have often been amazed when I tell them of things three months before they are told themselves.

Random teenager eh?
We always say we're the last ones to know, the cooks know than we do.
