Cat-in-engine fire crew get award

Fire crews who dismantled a car engine to free a cat which had fallen two storeys from a window and hidden under the bonnet are to receive an award.

Napoleon slipped at his home in Worthing, West Sussex, on 4 March.

He sought refuge in a parked Peugeot 206, which was jacked up and the front wheels and battery removed to free him.

In recognition, Worthing White Watch are to receive a Hero to Animals Award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) Europe.

Peta director, Robbie LeBlanc, said: "The determination and compassion that the Worthing White Watch showed in freeing this cat makes them community role models.

"Napoleon may have used up one of his nine lives, but thanks to this fire crew, he is enjoying his freedom once again - although he may be more careful when sitting on windowsills in the future."

Worthing White Watch will receive a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation from Peta.
