A 50-year-old woman has died after becoming trapped in a lift shaft in a block of flats in east London.
It happened at midnight on Saturday at Lambourne Court in Woodford Green.
London Fire Brigade said crews discovered a woman trapped between a lift car and the outer door. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokeswoman for the Health and Safety Executive said they had been notified of the incident and were conducting preliminary inquiries.
"An inspector has visited the site today and we have a joint investigation with the Metropolitan Police," she added.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said formal identification was awaited.
The death was not being treated as suspicious, said a spokesman from the Metropolitan Police.
