Fatal jump from tower block fire
A man has died after jumping from a burning flat on the fourth floor of an east London tower block.
The fire broke out at Ellen Wilkinson House in Smart Street, Bethnal Green on Monday evening.
Two women and a child left the burning flat before firefighters arrived. Around 50 residents from the block were evacuated to a local community centre.
London Fire Brigade is investigating the cause. Early indications suggest that it is not suspicious.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a blaze at a flat in Smart Street last night.
"The fire severely damaged the flat on the fourth floor. Firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding flats."
