was wondering about all the Home safety checks, how the brigade viewed training and the consequences?

This should put it into some sort of perspective, every month the station manager moans at me because we have not fitted our target number of smoke alarms. We have only got 34% of the watch with any real fire training which they had in 2006, only 36% of the watch have had forced entry training and that was also in 2006. This years EDBA refresher has been cancelled twice and still no sign of it yet. Can I get the Station Manager or the Borough Manager to get us some training? What do you think? Still have all the e-mails asking both of them to sort this out, all I get is they have tried but it’s not down to them!

The priority for the brigade always seems to be the latest"knee jerk reaction"   We had real fire training then Smoke alarms, BA and now high rise.
Whats next?

We are out teaching the new RTA Initial Attendance, this should put all PL,P and FRU's working off the same song sheet. We wrote it and up to now it looks like it's been well received.

The problem is when the brigade has its knee jerking they seem to forget the priority should be (an always has) been to save life both ours and theirs.

They should then allow the people who know what they’re doing to write these refreshers and prioritise them appropriately

No matter how many smoke alarms or fire safety visits you do you will always have fires and car crashes and you’ll always have penny pinching councils that decide to turn tower blocks into death traps to save/make a few bob.

To go on from my last, we do have to take some of the blame. The amount of people I see not wanting to do any sort of training or refreshers is quite disconcerting, they’ll spend every moment making excuses and trying to dodge them all.

When they turn up (late) they’ll make excuses about how things aren’t on the diary, couldn’t get off SR, didn’t know about it and many more.

We then have the union bitching about how the training isn’t enough and people are out of date for whatever course they should have done. The brigade hide and never take the trainers suggestions which is why we have FRU people which have never done a full RART course so aren’t even qualified, it can’t be that hard to book a day and populate it.

Sort of agree and disagree with you ! (just to sit on the fence )

We have had our EDBA yerly wear cancelled twice in January and February, we still have not had it as of the July, have e-mailed countless peoople several time and still nothing.
Although I got an answer yesterday apparently whoever cancelled it never bothered to tell anyone to rearrange it so everyone assumed it had been done?
We do have problems getting away tragic remorse is getting later and later before it it implemented and although that means we could go, if we are still waiting for a standby then we are not going anywhere.
And we have had stuff not put into our diary and the first thing we know is when we get a stroppy phone call from some trainer wanting to know why we are not where we should be.

And yes we do have firefighter doing everything they can to get out of trainng and refreshers but why?
