Hi
Just wondering if the F.R.U,s have different specialist roles, i.e one does line rescue, one does trench collapse that type of thing or are they all equipped the same way.
Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan,
Its a bit up in the air at the moment and could change any minute but it goes like this..............
16 FRU's All RTA, All line level 2, all standard rescue units.
10 of the 16 FRU's USAR trained
11 of the 16 FRU's water rescue trained
Think thats right, I'm sure if its not someone on here will correct me (go on, dare you  )

Yeah, but don't hold your breath whilst you wait for a 'specialist' course!
I've been waiting for line 2 for 7 months, whern I get mine that makes 3 line 2, only another year or so before we get the whole watch done!
Why can't the brigade do a whole watch over a period of 2-3 weeks and get them done?
Logistics?
Brigade ...... what's the word, incompetence, short sighted, stupidity, can't think of the word but someone will tell me.

There's your first mistake.
You're asking for a course.
Refuse, and you will get one within two weeks with a senior officer ordering you to do it.

And they say the divide between FRU and non FRU is dead :?
The rumour is we are getting another four, they have been put in purely for the terrorist threat and once that has gone so will they
I just hope this time they use there heads and put them into present FRU stations and have them double jumped. If not there is going to be a lot more nights in bed for all of us.

Yes, I thought that too, but there will still be those hell bent on keeping up old grudges.
If it's true about the 4 extra FRU's, I reckon that they will be around for a long, long time, N.I lasted 30+ years and by comparison to this latest threat, the IRA were a party that would meet and talk.

Another bloody 4???!!! It's dead as it is...we don't need any more on the run.....if anything take more off!!!
I don't regret doing anything normally, but I'm starting to regret doing the FRU course. If I wanted a night in bed I'd have gone to somewhere that is a damn site quieter. Granted, we aren't really that busy anymore anyway, but the FRU's are doing nothing everywhere. I've recently heard that Mill Wall have been over 28 days across all watches without a shout! And they want another 4 on the run?
I suppose that's what happens whn you get civvies running the job and not people that understand what need to happen......Anyway, that's my little rant over with! :)
