To all London FBU branches

FIREFIGHTER DEATHS - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

As you may be aware, the Fire Brigades Union has called a national rally and lobby of parliament in respect of the above campaign, which will take place on Wednesday 12 November. The rally will take place at Central Hall, Storey’s Gate, London SW1H 9NH at 1100 hours, followed by lobbying of MPs at the House of Commons.

The union has called on the government to take action to reverse the alarming upward trend in the number of firefighters killed in the line of duty (up 62% in the last five years). With the right policies, procedures and – crucially – investment, many of these deaths could have been avoided.

Firefighters from all parts of the UK will be attending the event. It is particularly important, given that the event is taking place in the capital, that London firefighters turn out in force. We therefore encourage all off-duty London firefighters to attend. It is recommended that undress uniform be worn.

A wreath-laying ceremony for fallen firefighters will take place, at which London members will be able to remember colleagues from the capital who have died in the line of duty. Each branch is encouraged to purchase a wreath for this ceremony.

Please see branch/borough reps for futher details.
