Has anyone else experienced some of the strange goings on since this 'Mobis' system came into effect.

Here's just a few:

Last October there were two four pump fires on our neighbouring station ground, neither our PL or P moved, not even to provide cover.

Last week, I was sent to a flooding in Sutton (DCT Station, on the run at the time) with our DCT. Only 23 miles away.

A couple of tours ago, RTA, person trapped, North Finchley. FRU? Bexley of course!! The system never considered Edmonton, Euston, Clerkenwell, Paddington, Wembley, Hornchurch, Bethn........

I think over the years we have all experienced stuff like this. On a couple of occasions we have telephoned control to see what is going on. Here are two replies.

The computer system automatically selects appliances to mobilise and should select the nearest one available, however it works through the list so lets say for example we have a RTA outside Euston Fire Station and Euston’s FRU is already deployed elsewhere.

The computer should go through the list of available FRU’s and select the nearest one available. However it will always select the first one available which depends how it starts it search via call signs, this is a programme selection which does not work the same way each time. Anyway once the selection is made the control operator should check before committing appliances, however to be fair to them if a computer selects an appliance and they are not sure of the locations of station are they going to challenge the computer answer No (that’s not a dig at control staff) Most times it gets it right but as we know we all have problems with our own computers from time to time, that’s why there is the manual override provide.

The other reason given is that depending upon what is happening in London at the time appliances will be marked as “held in Reserve” awaiting possible deployment, so the computer shows them as not available so it selects others. For example take yesterday and the incident at Heathrow.

A number of specials would have been placed on the reserve list in anticipation of the incident being upgraded and more resources required, so for that period of time those appliance would not have been available.

Hope that’s sort of clear, and no I do not work in control or know of anyone in there although I did whilst standing by at Lambeth one Christmas go to the last party held in the old control there but that’s another story!!
