It has come to the union’s attention that some crew managers have been instructed to deputise for absent watch managers where those watch managers have been absent for more than eight consecutive shifts.

This is a breach of policy 439, which makes clear that crew managers can only be asked to deputise within the first eight shifts of absence. After that, the brigade must make alternative arrangements for cover.

Should any crew manager be asked to act in breach of policy 439, they should refuse.

On a separate matter, further to our earlier email concerning crew managers relinquishing their star from 9 September, the FBU wishes to reiterate that we are not asking members currently undertaking temporary promotion to revert to their substantive rank. Provided the period of temporary promotion started before the commencement of industrial action on 13 August, members may continue in their temporary role.

Have you got your ballot form from the union asking us to take it a step further and vote if all those carrying out long term temporary should give it up!

I don't think we should need one personally. I feel we should just do whatever we can to the authority (within our contractural obligations) so they end up giving us what we want. All we are doing is taking away the good will.

Exactly! All we are doing is withdrawing good will, which those in senior management and HR seem unable to comprehend, that we as a group of workers are feed up with being treated in such a way that we have decided to no longer play the game.

As far as I am personally concerned we should also withdraw the local agreement to keep Pump Ladders on the run for a minimum of an hour as well. Management keep going on about the National Agreement well lets stick to it then! No compulsory overtime to keep any machines on the run.
